Obituary – Ricky Edward Compton, Jr.
Saturday, April 18, 2026

Ricky Edward Compton, Jr., age 47, of North Tazewell, VA, was taken from his loving family far too soon on April 15, 2026, following a tragic accident. The world was blessed with Ricky’s presence on December 20, 1978. He was the definition of an incredible man, son, husband, brother, father, and friend. His wife and children were his world and the light of his life. He was his parents’ golden child and their best Christmas present. He was known for his practical jokes, snappy one-liners, infectious laugh, and big heart. He was employed by Delrick Corporation. Ricky was the center of the family and kept everything together. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He looked forward to his yearly hunting trip with his father, brothers, children, and friends. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, motorcycles, and working on his Peterbilt with his brother. He was affectionately known as “Rodeo Dad,” taking his loving daughter across the country chasing buckles and barrels. He loved watching his son play football and he never missed a game or the chance to give him a hard time. He was voted “World’s Best Uncle” by several of his nieces and nephews, and he was Superman to his children.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, Jessica Compton, whom he married on June 2, 2001. Together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. They shared two beautiful children, Alexa Nichole Compton and Ricky Edward Compton III, who are left to carry their father’s memory forward. He is also survived by his devoted parents, Ricky Edward Compton, Sr. and Della Gay Compton. He leaves behind two brothers, Jack Compton (Shae) and Kenny Compton (Sarah), and one sister and partner in crime from an early age, Shannon Cages (Charlie). Four brothers-in-law, Christopher Jackson (Sherie), Patrick Jackson (Ollena), Brandon Jackson (Jo), and Jordan Jackson (Molly). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Jaclyn, Summer, KJ, Jacob, Carly, Abigail, Noah, Nathaniel, Cayden, Colten, Haley, Hayden, Cameron, Elsie, and Emma, as well as aunts and uncles, Dr. Ralph Compton, Renia Boerboom, Hershell Carter, Rachelle Palmer, Terri Stinson, Kenneth Stinson, Brinda Compton (John), Dolly Garcia (Juan), and John Stinson. Ricky will be greatly missed by his loyal Dobie “Zeus.”
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Arnold and Anne Stinson, paternal grandmother, Lois Poe, aunt, Kathy Stinson, and uncle, Ryan Carter.
Ricky’s life was short, but his impact was great. He put his Lord and family above all else, and he taught us to love deeply and laugh often. His legacy will live on through his beloved children.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Preston Mathena officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Ricky Compton III, KC Rose, Nathan Hurt, Rick Patton, Anthony Phillips, Lee Proffitt, Eric Clifton, and Mark Salyers will serve as pallbearers with Jacob Compton, KJ Compton, and Thomas Vanhoozer as honorary bearers.
Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA is honored to serve the Compton family.
