Jerry Williams Honored At The Tennessee Black Rodeo
Thursday, June 5, 2025

Jerry Williams is a third-generation horse trainer who continues a proud family tradition rooted in dedication and love for the Tennessee Walking Horse. He currently trains horses at the historic Uncle Nearest Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee, where his family-operated facility reflects the values he holds most dear.
Family is central to Jerry’s story. One of his proudest accomplishments was making history alongside his nephew, Walker Williams, as the first African American duo to win a Leadline World Grand Championship at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. The legacy lives on through his son, Jeremy Williams, who shares his father’s passion—already earning a Reserve World Championship at the Celebration.
Most recently, Jerry was honored to be invited to the Tennessee Black Rodeo, where he exhibited a performance Tennessee Walking Horse in front of a vibrant and appreciative crowd. The event, known for celebrating Black excellence, provided a powerful platform for Jerry to showcase the art and athleticism of the breed he has dedicated his life to. For Jerry, it was not just an exhibition—it was a moment of recognition, pride, and progress.
